Bouran is a senior water resources engineer in Newtech Consulting Group/Sudan and a local Early
Warning Systems Expert for the International Center for Environmental Monitoring/Italy. She holds
BSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Khartoum (2013), and MSc. in Water Resources
Engineering from the same university (2017). Her experience ranges from working as a hydraulics
engineer for the University of Khartoum Consultancy Corporation to working as a part-time lecturer
and researcher at the Faculty of Engineering/University of Khartoum. She has conducted research on
water resources planning and management, intergenerational equity, hydro-economics, hydro-politics,
and transboundary river conflicts. Bouran also served as a hydraulics and hydrological
modeling expert for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UN-FAO) in
Afghanistan. She has been involved in projects funded by several international agencies and
development banks in different countries, including Sudan, South Sudan, Botswana, and
Zambia. Bouran has authored over 10 publications and presented at local and international
conferences including UNFCC-COP27, Cairo Water Week 2022, the 10th International Conference on
Appropriate Technology, and the 28th FIDIC Africa Conference. Her participation addressed the role
of consultants in peace-building and water resources planning and management, the development of
infrastructure prioritization frameworks for governments, and mainstreaming research and
development (R&D) to resolve Africa’s Infrastructure Paradox.
