A World Bank consultant with over forty years' experience as a civil engineer in both public and private sectors. Founding CEO (now retired) of the South African National Roads Agency Ltd. (SANRAL) in post-Apartheid South Africa and a globally recognized leader in PPPs, institutional reform, and the development of SMMEs, transport systems, contract models, as well as economic infrastructure policy. Elected President of PIARC in October 2021 for the 2022 to 2024 cycle. President of the Association of Southern African National Roads Agencies (ASANRA): 2005 - 2009; Chairman of the Africa Community Access Programme (AfCAP - funded by the British Govt.): 2019 -2020. Nazir is a chartered civil engineer with postgraduate qualifications and a recipient of various awards. He is a Fellow of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering and South African Academy of Engineers, a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineering, and is responsible for establishing dedicated Chairs at various universities in South Africa.
