Trevor Manuel is one of South Africa’s most influential public servants, serving two decades as a Cabinet Minister under the country’s first four democratic Presidents. As Finance Minister for 13 years, he steered South Africa’s economic transformation, stabilised the macro-economy, and advanced financial inclusion. He also served as Minister of Trade and Industry and later as Minister in the Presidency, leading the creation of the National Development Plan.
Internationally, Mr Manuel has chaired and served on high-level bodies including the World Bank, IMF, G20, UN commissions, and the Global Ocean Commission. His leadership has earned him numerous awards, eight honorary doctorates, and prominent roles in business and civil society. He currently chairs Old Mutual Limited and co-chairs the UN Experts Panel on Debt and Development, continuing his legacy of shaping economic and development policy globally.
