Mark Coates is Vice President of Infrastructure Policy Advancement at Bentley Systems, where he advises governments, policymakers, and business leaders worldwide on the benefits of digital transformation in infrastructure. With over 30 years of experience in the construction and infrastructure sector, he is recognised for his expertise in smart cities and in guiding stakeholders toward delivering higher-quality, more sustainable projects on time and within budget.

A former quantity surveyor, Mark has extensive experience in global project execution, having worked with clients such as Thames Water, United Utilities, ICI, Highways England, the Olympic Delivery Authority, and Crossrail. He is a Fellow of both the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation and the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors. Beyond his professional role, he contributes to industry leadership as International Forum Chair at British Water, trustee of the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors, and as a member of several advisory and strategic boards, including the UK’s Digital Twin Hub and the ICE Inspiring Engineering Excellence Community.
