- a webinar organised by the FIDIC Business Practice Leadership Committee
Selecting a Consultant is one of the most important decisions an Owner or Client makes. Every project is unique, and each has its own challenges. At the start of most projects, it is difficult for the Clients to perceive the likely complexity of their project/problem or the extent and scope of professional services that may be required to develop a solution. The success of any project depends upon sound preparation and obtaining the most appropriate expertise available in terms of skill, past experience, and managerial abilities. Logic and experience have shown that Clients who shop for Consultancy Services on the basis of appropriate qualifications will obtain a quality of service commensurate with their needs. Correct selection will have a major bearing on the value delivered; quality, overall (life-time) project Cost, and timeliness. It will also have an impact on public safety and the commercial benefits associated with infrastructure and superstructure projects. Selection of the right Consultant for each project is therefore of paramount importance. When cost of services remains a selection criteria, care must be taken to avoid allowing it to become the discriminating factor.
