As a trailblazer in the built environment in South Africa, Malani founded, the first women-owned and led engineering and development consultancy. Over the past 28 years she has built the MPAMOT Group to a successful, high-performance company with a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture and a strong client-centric and service excellence focus. The highlight of her business journey was undoubtedly the acquisition of the local office of Mott MacDonald in 2020, which placed the organisation on a growth trajectory.
An exemplary professional engineer, she won the coveted SAICE Civil Engineer of the year award in 2018 and recently qualified onto the TOP50 2025 fastest growing women-owned and led businesses globally as recognised by JP MorganChase and WPO.
She is currently a member of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers Global Leadership Forum advisory board, the BRICS Women in Business Alliance committee and various other forums where she continues to spearhead transformation in the industry. In addition, Malani holds positions on the engineering advisory boards at two of the prestigious universities of South Africa. She is also a fellow of the South African Academy of Engineering and previously served on various boards including the South African Institution of Civil Engineering, the Engineering Council of South Africa and Consulting Engineers South Africa.
As signatory to the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles, she continues to advocate for transformation of the industry. Malani is also a member of the BRICS BWA, that aims to optimise opportunities for female entrepreneurs across multiple sectors. In addition, she creates awareness about engineering as a career, mentors young engineers, newcomers in the industry and entrepreneurs across the sectors.
