Conference programme

The Raffles City Convention Centre will serve as the official venue for our FIDIC 2023 Global Infrastructure Conference. Raffles City Convention Centre’s main ballroom will host the main conference events, with the welcome evening reception taking place on Sunday 10 September and the main conference from 11-12 September, including the sponsor exhibition and networking breaks.

The conference theme, Infrastructure – there’s no time to lose: Sustainable global (and local) strategies to build a better world, will stress the urgency of the need to invest in infrastructure in a sustainable way at a local and national level that brings stakeholders together around a common aim of improving the global environment that we all depend on.

The conference will include six forum discussion tables which will run parallel with the conference agenda and these will cover key areas of interest for attendees.

These forums will be open to all conference registrants closer to the conference. Please note that spaces are limited, and these will be reserved on a first come first served basis.

A certificate of attendance will be provided to each conference (11-12 September 2023) participant which may be used for CPD verification in your local region.

Demand for sustainable infrastructure is increasing in scale and complexity as the world transitions to a low-carbon future.  Yet, under current governmental decarbonisation policies, levels of investment to meet this rising demand for sustainable infrastructure are estimated to fall short by some $64 trillion of the $139 trillion required by 2050 according to a prepared by the FIDIC Global Leadership Forum in collaboration with EY.  The report will be presented in session 1 of the conference by Chris Lewis, Global Head of Infrastructure, EY.  This session gives delegates an opportunity to discuss and debate the following questions:

1)    What is the gap in infrastructure funding required to achieve net zero, globally?
2)    What is the role of government and the industry in accelerating an investable pipeline of the most impactful projects?
3)    How can governments and the investor community rapidly unlock and mobilise additional capital, eg by championing a green financing ecosystem?

The session is open to all conference participants - Registration required.

Asset owners, clients, funders and investors are becoming much more focused on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues as they increasingly apply these non-financial factors as part of their analysis process to identify material risks and growth opportunities. As a result, the industry needs to make significant progress on decarbonisation, biodiversity and overall sustainability. This session will look at how clients, civic society, funders’ expectations of consultants in driving net zero in infrastructure and identify how the need to address climate change will alter our design assumptions and approach to risk in design.
